Jorge A. Cartaya graduated from the University of Toronto in June 2011 with an Honours Bachelor of Arts with High Distinction. Mr. Cartaya then attended Osgoode Hall Law School at York University where he obtained his Juris Doctor (JD) degree in 2015.
Mr. Cartaya completed the Law Practice Program (LPP) at Ryerson University while working for Mazinani Law Offices until May 2016. During his time at Mazinani Law Offices, he worked in civil litigation, family law, criminal law, and immigration-related matters. Mr. Cartaya was officially called to the bar in June 2016 as Barrister & Solicitor.
In June 2016, Mr. Cartaya started working with Blue Letter Law Professional Corporation as an associate lawyer. At Blue Letter Law, he worked on numerous family and wills/estates matters. In January 2018 Mr. Cartaya opened his own practice, Cartaya Law Office.
Mr. Cartaya has appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice on multiple occasions. He has negotiated settlements with opposing counsels while litigating matters requiring a more aggressive approach. He has dealt with complex family cases and is a results-driven practitioner. While he encourages his clients to explore settlement or out-of-court options which are often more cost-effective, Mr. Cartaya has successfully litigated many family law proceedings at court, where he has relentlessly and skillfully fought for his clients’ interests.
Mr. Cartaya fluently speaks and writes Spanish, and is a member of the Toronto Lawyers Association. He accepts Legal Aid as well as private retainers.
